Elephantitis is a physical overgrowth of a specific part of the body. Hail The Sun, a progressive post-hardcore band based throughout California, has taken that concept, and applied it to character flaws, such as an overgrown sex drive, or an overgrown obsession with death. Covering topics most bands don't care to talk about (even the sex one is viewed in a new light), these negative traits are delved into, exposed for what they really are, and, to an extent, explained in a way those of us who don't have such intense feelings about these things can relate to. With an amazing amount of musicianship, the four-piece has collected an immense amount of material, and condensed it into a powerful half-hour EP. Timing changes, vocal harmonies, intricate guitar play, breakneck drums, and an ever-solid bass line are the stand-out characteristics of Hail The Sun, and this sophomore release, while not as lengthy as their debut, shows growth and improvement in every one of those categories, and more.
