简介
This album represents a continuation of my quest to create an authentic musical language that is both spiritual and inclusive. Over fifty Jazz, Funk, Gospel, Classical and World Music Artists poured their hearts and souls into this project. If you like your music served just one way then this might not be the album for you. KUMBAYA- a new funky, gospely take on an old familiar tune. A total blast to record. Jazz pianist Michael Bluestein plays the burnin' B3 organ solo. WHEN IT GROOVES- when the music compels the listener to move to the music, you can be sure then that the band is groovin. And when the band is groovin, no matter where I am, it is church. ROAD TO EMMAUS- I thought a bit of Caribbean sun, sand and steel pan would be a great way to tell this biblical story. I wanted to capture the feeling of being on a journey. ALWAYS WITH YOU- if we hang on to something in fear, sometimes it's best to let it go no matter what we're holding onto. FORTY DAYS- a song about finding true strength when times are tough. AWAKE MY SOUL- I happened upon this psalm one night as was struck by its message of hope. It has been performed often at yearly anniversaries of the tragedy of Sept. 11th. LIFE'S UNVEILING A SONG- one of the happiest tunes I've ever written. When one is truly at peace then tiniest details of life becomes a celebration. Everything is a song and/or dance. I thought a Brazilian groove would be best to convey this message of joy. Many thanks to Phil Hawkins for putting the percussion together. WHO DO YOU SAY I AM- a simple delicate melody clothes a profound question. My friend Tom O'Brien contributed the beautiful lyrics. WITNESS- I always wanted to write a gospel song. The lyric is from a classic song that I re-arranged one day for our church's gospel choir. Almost every singer I've ever worked with is on the recording. REMEMBER ME- a communion duet with my friend and incredible vocalist Sally Jackels. CANTEMOS AL SENOR- an arrangement of the powerful Carlos Rosas tune. Wayne Wallace plays the trombone. John Calloway plays the flute. This is meant to be danced to. I'VE GOT THE JOY- this is my always my closing song. 10-year-old Lindsay Ford performs the opening vocals.
