简介
The Newfoundland musical duet, SIMANI, have been a cornerstone in traditional Newfoundland music. Formed in 1977 by Bud Davidge and Sim Savory, their music helped keep our unique heritage alive by putting old stories to song and recording local jigs and reels, many that have never before been recorded. Nearly all of SIMANI's recorded songs are originals, written by Bud Davidge who was also the vocalist for the group. Sim Savory is a gifted musician, being a master of many instruments, as well as a very talented sound engineer. In a musical career that lasted from 1977 to 1997, SIMANI were stars with major radio airplay and sold out shows wherever they performed. Since their first recording “Saltwater Cowboys” in 1981, they have produced 12 recordings. Unfortunately for the Newfoundland music scene Sim passed away in 2010 but Bud is still releasing solo recordings. On this SIMANI compilation, we are presenting the most popular Outport & Sea songs that capture The Magic That Is “SIMANI” This compilation of songs about the Outports and the Sea defines Newfoundlanders and their everyday experiences of the hard life but good life that is associated with being somewhat isolated. People were more resourceful and there was a greater sense of community and working together sometimes even when there was tragedy from living and working around and on the sea. The song “Tribute To The Lady Anderson” was never released on a SIMANI LP and was only ever available on a recording “Fortune Bay Musicians”. This may be the first time that many SIMANI fans will ever hear this recording.
