简介
Purple Jake is the tale of an interstellar creature that crash-lands into the sand dunes of an Australian beach town. The 5-track EP explores Jake’s experience throughout a day and night in a foreign land, varying from the marvelously mundane to the insane. This concept distances Water Bear from their previous EP ‘Quackadilly Blip’, as the doom inspired riffs and jazz inspired chords of their first installment have been answered with 1960’s influenced surf tunes. Singer and guitarist Sam Harding commented on the transition: “The first EP is a collection of the first 5 tracks we ever did. They are fairly disjointed musically and lyrically, so we wanted to respond with a much more cohesive collection of songs that work on a different scale.” “We’ve been listening to a lot of instrumental surf music of the sixties, so an up-tempo, surf-pop style has naturally seeped into the writing process. It’s also a style of music that we considered would breathe some life into live performances.” ‘Purple Jake’ is a celebration of Australia’s leisure lifestyle, whilst also alluding to the behavior of those that run the country. It is a call to action to go against the grain; challenge information that is preached with research to form an individual opinion
