On February 18th, 1980 Andy Nicholas Blake was born in the beautiful Cayman Islands. His parents were of Caymanian and Jamaican descents. He was destine to be what he is today from an early age, a Musician a Singer, a Songwriter, a guitarist. He would awake to sound of a Piano being played by his Mother. His Father’s voice would soon thereafter resonate through the house. Your guess is as good as any; Andy’s Father was a devote Seventh Day-Adventist and the Church Head Elder. Andy’s Father migrated from Hanover Jamaica in 1970 in search of a better Life. It was either Bahamas or The Cayman Islands and he chose The Cayman Islands. Work was very scarce in Jamaica and many Jamaicans sought to leave. Soon thereafter he met a Young lady and they soon became married and as a result we have Andy. Andy is the third born son of Wilfred and Mary Blake’s four children. Music played a key role in the household. Andy’s Father was an exceptional Baritone and was called upon religiously to perform a rendition. Together with his two older brothers Andy would accompany his Father for the Cayman Islands National Male Voice Choir practices. Andy was no doubt the youngest member. The other Choir Members quickly recognized Andy as a unique singer for his age. So the choir directors suggest that Elder Blake help Andy with preparing a song to sing Solo to open for the Choir wherever they performed. The task of teaching Andy how to sing was given to his Mother for his Fathers job as a Mason meant that he was out early and home late; the construction industry was on the rise and the demand for labor was high. As you may agree women have any amazing ability to bring out the best in a man so this was a God sent support. After many hours of training and rehearsing Andy was now ready to perform alone. At the tender age of 8 Andy sang gospel favorites like, “Lord’s Prayer”, “Psalms 23” and “Fill my Cup” for hundreds of people. Soon Andy was requested to sing at many different churches of all denominations all over the island. Andy was a crowd favorite then, now and forever will be. After receiving a guitar for a Wedding gift in September 2002 Andy has learnt to play, write and compose songs. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Luciano, Sizzla, Sade have shaped this artist in many ways. After getting married his Jamaican born wife got him into listening to Country music like Reba Mcintyre, Vince Gill, Garth Brooks, Tanya Tucker just to name a few of Countries greatest. His oldest brother got him listening to Metallica and Latin greats like Selena and Jon Secada. Andy grew up in the era of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls and “Dear Mama’ is said to be his most favorite rap single. With all these mixes and blends of music Andy has grown with a love for many different genres and this can be seen and heard in his many different writing styles.
