简介
“I’ve got blisters on my fingers!” The duality of passion and pain in this famous exclamation (made by the inimitable Ringo Starr during the Beatles’ triumphant foray into hard rock, Helter Skelter), mirrors the theme of duality that runs through Jon Slow’s songwriting; especially in his new 3-song acoustic-based modern rock release, The One You Feed. Jon’s aim is to infiltrate the public consciousness by populating film, TV, advertising, and new recordings by established artists (i.e. any and all means) with his ever-growing repertoire of songs. He draws compositional technique inspiration from artists that have recorded intelligent, eternally contemporary music such as LIVE, Joe Purdy, David Gray, Counting Crows, Pearl Jam, Squeeze, Tom Petty, The Swell Season and Dave Matthews. The One You Feed centers on the two sides we all possess, and the choices we make between the dark and light components of our natures. The inspiration for this theme came from an old Cherokee tale in which the grandfather wisely intones to his grandson that between the “Two Wolves” living inside of us – one kind, positive and altruistic; one angry, selfish and jealous – the one that wins is The One You Feed. Of course, in both life and music, it is never quite that simple. Shades of grey bleed into both sides, and this deliciously complex dynamic of the human experience is ripe for exploration in the body of work that Jon Slow has produced and continues to produce in the songs contained on The One You Feed: Hanging by a Thread depicts the heart-wrenching challenge of coping with the departure of a significant person from your life –through death or distance – and pushing through to simultaneously celebrate the everlasting effect they have imprinted upon your life. Broken Toys portrays the internal battle of objectively realizing someone is not a positive presence in your life, yet being unable to sever ties due to the subjective, emotional nature of such entanglements. Wait All Day examines the biological momentum that instigates repetition of the same bad choices and unwise behaviors by producing an emotional and physical reaction to which your body and soul grow dependently and unhealthily accustomed. Jon Slow’s path toward circulating songs that entertain, allowing the audience to formulate their own interpretations and relate the material to their own lives, has manifested in the duality of fulfillment and despair, leaving signs along the way. The benefit of this has been Jon steadily gaining in wisdom, confidence and craft. This journey has given Jon the ability to compose and produce music which approaches that initial, pure vision in an artist’s mind’s eye. Jon Slow entreats you to consider his latest body of work ~ The One You Feed. And Jon’s prolific, bottomless well of songwriting inspiration ensure there will be plenty more material to come.
