Farrel was awarded an Honorable Mention in the 2011 Woody Guthrie Songwriting Contest for his song, "Hard Times." His song, “Needle and Thread” was awarded an Honorable Mention in the July / August 2009 American Songwriter Magazine Lyric Contest. Farrel's albums, titled "Kileigh by the Sea", "Illusion of a Fool", and his newest, "Magnet in My Heart" are available on CDBaby, iTunes, and many other music distribution locations. "Magnet in My Heart" is a new adventure for Farrel with more songs about relationships and matters of the heart. Some stories tell of deep love and some say it without the word "love" at all. Other stories are darker and leave the listener with an image of personal troubles. "The Shoulder Song" explores the cultural ways our shoulders become metaphors of different ideas. Finally, the album ends with a Celtic dream and the importance of our family connections even if a century or more has passed. "Ants" is a crazy but true story. One word that does NOT describe Farrel Droke is “introverted.” His eagerness to love and explore life permeates his approach to his melodies and lyrics. He sings with a clear voice. Farrel’s songs take his adventuresome stories into songs about complex human relationships. His skills as a songwriter have been influence by many things, and many lives. So far, Farrel has lived an interesting life. He spent 5 years in the USAF during the Vietnam era, was a mechanical engineer for 25 years, and finally owned a restaurant for 7 years. He is now a full-time musician. Farrel is musically influenced by many musical styles but especially loves Lyle Lovett, Steely Dan, and Chris Isaak.
