简介

"This Moment" features renown drummer Yoron Israel, who has recorded and performed throughout the world with such luminaries as Ahmad Jamal, Abbey Lincoln, Sonny Rollins, Horace Silver, Kenny Burrell, Art Farmer, among numerous others. This is Yoron's eighth recording as a leader. He is joined here with his quartet "High Standards", with longtime collaborators Lance Bryant (tenor/soprano saxophones) and Laszlo Gardony (piano), along with newcomer Henry Lugo (bass). This live recording is from a memorable concert at the prestigious Berklee Performance Center in Boston, MA, on the evening of June 18, 2013. The repertoire chosen for "This Moment" consist of some new music for the group, namely the songs "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" (track 3), "Her All" (track 4), both penned by Yoron Israel and the lyrical drum set composition "Glory" (track 6), which is a first of its kind on a project led by Yoron. Track 9, "The Eleventh Hour", is a song that the band regularly performed, but on this night it took on a more meaningful significance with the sad news of the recent passing of its composer, pianist Mulgrew Miller, just a few weeks prior. Additionally, as mentioned in the Yoron's Introduction (track 1), the group was celebrating their current highly acclaimed recording at the time, "Visions, the Music of Stevie Wonder", by featuring compositions from that work, including "Where Were You When I Needed You Last Winter" (track 2), "Creepin' " (track 5), "Passionate Raindrops" (track 7) and an adventurous version of "Contusion" (track 8), which in the improvisational nature of great jazz performances, provides over eleven minutes of exhilarating joy. It's also interesting to note how Yoron's arrangements of these Stevie classics have evolved since "Visions". On "This Moment", you are invited to hear and feel the excitement generated by this cohesive quartet as they spontaneously push musical boundaries, inspire one another and touch the hearts of the enthusiastic audience in attendance that hot summer evening in Boston.
