Out of Nothing is a collection of 14 original songs written or co-written by Steve Addabbo. After testing the songs and his performances on the NYC songwriting scene, the album was recorded in snatches of time in between his busy studio schedule over a four-year period. The result is a powerful collection of songs that honestly address the spirit of life’s trajectory. Joined by drummer Steve Holley, bassists John Patitucci and Byron Isaacs, pedal steel player Larry Campbell, Eric Andersen on Fender Rhodes and backing vocals by Ana Egge and Caitlin Canty, the album lays out a landscape of experience, perspective and emotion from an artist who has found something worth sharing. Comment from R.M: The sound of this album really affects me. Maybe it's the JJ Cale like feel with that JJ Kale, Mark Knopfler mournful guitar on a lot of the songs, and I've only gone through about six I have to say that when I played River Town tears started welling up the way a handful of songs creep up and do that to me. I guess "I just wasn't made for these times" by Brian Wilson is a song like that and there have been a handful of others. Your line says it all so well, "so simple and so complex". I guess that's why music is so special to me because the parts of my own emotional make up that I could never really explain is reached by certain sounds. Your album has that.
