简介
Writer & director Ward Roberts wrote the script for & edited Dust Up to the songs of Spindrift & Gram Rabbit. After watching rough cuts of the film both bands agreed to merge their songs with the film for all eternity and a true neo-western was born. Along with the use of existing songs, Kirpatrick Thomas of Spindrift composed the original score with his band backing him in the studio, recorded by Engineer/Mixer Riley Bray at his Rainspell Studio. Different musical themes were developed around the characters. Much like "Once Upon A Time In The West". "When I was Free" is the original demo version, with Dave Koenig on vocals, defining the innocent & simple life an relationship of Jack & Mo. "Ace Coletrane" is originally from the album "The West" and seemed to fit Jack's Heroic Theme perfectly. Parts of the score were created out this track, merging seamlessly with the needle-drop cues. "Space Jazz" was taken from Kirpatrick's unreleased private library. Definitely one of his more experimental tunes. Excellent for Herman. Many of the hedonistic and apocalyptic themes of Buzz's character came directly from the lyrics and dangerously fun sounds of Gram Rabbit. This music, this character, this world is sexy & scary at the same time. A thrilling place to be if you dare. When writing & editing the film Roberts was sure to fill Buzz's saloon and later the outdoor rave with their songs. Roberts was first introduced to the electro-dance-psychedelic-country-rock sounds of Gram Rabbit by his mother & fellow Dust Up producer, Ingeborg, when visiting her in Joshua Tree where she had becomes fan and shortly thereafter friend of the band members, Jesika Von Rabbit, Todd Rutherford Johnson & Ethan Allen. By total chance Roberts stumbled upon a screening of "The Legend of God's Gun" in Joshua Tree, CA one night... his very first exposure to Spindrift and Gram Rabbit. That same month Dust Up Music Supervisor Nik Hoffman first heard Spindrift at a Los Angeles music festival. When Roberts & Hoffman soon discovered they had both seen & been blow away by this band, they immediately declared this is who must provide the tunes to the theoretical western they had been discussing. IFC exclusively premiered the "Hellbound (Theme from DUST UP)" music video, merging images of the band with the opening titles of the film, created b Adam Tiller. This video was created to support the release of Spindrift's Classic Soundtracks Vol. 1 (Xemu Records) in 2011. Roberts directed the music video to Gram Rabbit's "Desperate Heart" after the song was selected for a advertising campaign that premiered during the 2012 Olympics in London. Spindrift's song Indian Run had been used in Quentin Tarantino's "Hell Ride" as well, along with in the aforementioned "Legend of God's Gun." Inhuman Behavior actually dates back to the early days of Spindrift, with the original lineup. It was recorded in Wilmington, DE in 2000 on 2" tape(analog style) and features Dan Kerrigan(Flesh & Spirit) on guitar. The drums in the beginning were generated by a Casio Digital Guitar running through an Octaver and a Space Station split to stereo. The Isle of Lost Souls, title track originally from "The West", fit perfectly in the Dawn of the Dead type scenes. The fuzz on Goin Down is generated by a built in effect on an old 60's Vox Cheetah. Lyrics were written by Kirpatrick & Dexy Valentine(of Magic Wands).
