Wormhole were born in April 2003. The band aimed to start a project with female vocals, in which the dark mood of the musical structures and of the vocal melodies would have melted with the typical dissonant post-rock style and the entangled rhythmic patterns of the prog-rock. The definition of ‘post-dark’ comes from here, and stands as a symbol – though concise and limiting – of the musical direction undertaken by the band. From this point of view, the very choice of the monicker ‘Wormhole’ is linked to the musical choices of the band: besides representing the experimental aims of their compositions, a wormhole stands as the metaphor of a link between ideas, sounds, words and contrasts which at first sight may appear too distant from each other, and which are connected in the same way as parallel dimensions are connected. Their lyrics follow the same patterns of their musical choices, as they deal with a series of contrasts between different realities, namely Eros and Thanatos, nature and evolution, innocence and eroticism. In this way, the natural distinction between white and black turns into a kaleidoscopic melting of sound and emotion. After the first gigs, the band recorded its first promo-cd in May 2004; the cd was issued at the end of the same year, and included seven tracks. Due to a chronic lack of live contests and structures in Southern Italy, the cd has been promoted mainly on the net. In 2005, Wormhole supported the French-Italian band ‘L’enfance Rouge’, as well as taking part in a few summer contests and in a few compilations. After the summer gigs, former singer Marfa left the band, replaced by Valentina in March 2006. The musical influences of the new line-up took to include a plainer, harder sound, towards gothic metal.
