Dang Xua is Hoai Phuong's debut album featuring himself as a vocalist, instrumentalist, arranger, and songwriter. Each of the songs in the album tells you a story of his own life experience through his refreshing and smooth voice. Dang Xua is a fusion of the Western sound and the Oriental traditional through the way Phuong put the instruments together. The Japanese shakuhachi sound in Ru Mai Ngan Nam was in fact played on a regular Western flute. What seems to be the bluesy lead guitar on The Gioi Khong Tinh Yeu was no other than the dan bau rigged through an effect processor. The drums was carefully programmed that one could be mistaken as it was performed by an actual artist. Besides Hoai Phuong's own compositions, Dang Xua also includes great songs from other renowned Vietnamese composers, including Trinh Cong Son, Le Huu Ha, Kim Tuan, and Viet Anh, however with Phuong's own style of arrangement. The appearances of the princess of Vietnamese pop music, Minh Tuyet and diva Ha Tran in this album definitely add different flavors to the sound of the album. Most of the songs are sung in Vietnamese except for track 10, 'Til the End of Time in English.
