The Erotics 30 Seconds Over You (Overit Records) (REVIEW BY LORD RUTLEDGE) I sometimes envision myself running for president on a completely unassailable platform: legalized prostitution, an across-the-board age of consent of 16, making "Rock and Roll All Nite" the new national anthem, vowing to guarantee that every willing individual gets laid at least once every four days...How could I possibly lose?! The Erotics would be the only logical choice for my campaign band, their thunderously sleazy hard rock anthems blasting from the loudspeakers of the Rutledge Express at every whistlestop. I imagine my acceptance speech: "Rock music," I'd say, "is not about angst. It's about FUN!" Behind me, a curtain opens, and The Erotics launch into "Fast Cars and Porno Stars". Displays of pyrotechnics and shagging in the streets erupt from coast to coast. What a wonderful world this could be if people learned how to rock again! Picking up where Rock N Roll Killing Machine left off, and kicking it up another notch, 30 Seconds Over You is the loudest, heaviest Erotics album to date. New second guitarist Rachel Toxic jacks up the band's aggressive attack. He and Mike Trash make quite the duo - this record boasting some of the hottest shredding this side of 1987 and monster riffs that would make Mick Mars proud. Trash's mean Alice Cooper growl hasn't lost an ounce of snarl, and all in all The Erotics come off here like a band at the very top of their game. The group sounds hungry, committed, and determined to blow a hole through your speakers. The production is perfect for a hard rock record: massive and crunching, with a clarity that accentuates the band's firepower rather than neutering it. If the Motley Crues, WASPs, and Guns N' Roses of the world are not as fondly remembered as they should be, perhaps it's because their studio recordings never sounded this awesome. Song topics address the burning issues of the rock life: loose women, addiction, dirty underage sluts, teenage drag queens, and other matters far too unseemly for the mind to ponder. Trash's songwriting is as on time as ever - Who could resist the fist-pumping KISS/Crue thunder of the title track or the wildly exultant decadence of "All-American Catholic Boy"? "Mommy Is A Monster" is what late '80s Alice Cooper should have sounded like, while "Baby Rock Out" shakes the walls and blows off the roof. And if you wanna talk power ballads, "Sunshine" is pure gold. That The Erotics are the best American hard rock band going is no longer subject to debate. That issue was settled long ago, the edict proclaimed from above and etched into stone by a massive thunderbolt. What remains to be decided is how much longer this band can keep it up. Surely it's soon time for these guys to wimp out, go prog, or simply start sucking, right? I don't think so. In a world where nothing good ever lasts and everything cool seems to be in decline, The Erotics are that rare sure bet. As long as they're breathing, they'll live to rock. Lord Rutledge September 12, 2007 The Erotics ‘30 Seconds Over You’ During the last five years, I’ve given the Erotics every accolade imaginable. This underground, critically acclaimed band from Albany, NY has always rocked my world. But, this time around the Erotics just bring it to a new level of brilliance. Their new CD is a bold and abrasive 14 track sleaze rock tour de force, permeated with snotty lyrics, slamming guitars and a BIG F**k You attitude. Band leader Mike Trash has perfected his ability to write the perfect fist pumping glam/punk anthem. With the addition of new guitarist Rachel Toxic, the Erotics are again a quartet, and a much more focused and ferocious Rock n’ Roll Killing Machine. The highlights of this 14 track 47:56 minutes CD are…. well, how about every fucking raucous moment. The CD starts off with a short flamenco flavored acoustic guitar run that Trash somehow makes sound sleazy. It’s just the calm before the storm. The finely crafted hard hitting “Your Mommy is a Monster” follows with a big a** hook and catchy gang bang chorus. The title track, “30 Seconds Over You” has a classic Kiss meets vintage Alice Cooper sound. “Don’t Make Me Hate You” has a retro, stoner rock edge with a ‘Paranoid’ style riff that would make any pothead raise their bong in approval. Guitar stars Trash and Toxic give us some ultra cool double lead ala Thin Lizzy on "Where the Action Never Stops" and "Sunshine." They also trade off Ace Frehley type leads on "Among The Nasty," "Ain't Your Fix” and “Teenage Drag Queen.” The infectious “Baby Rock Out” could be the best song that Trash has ever penned. It may also be the most finely crafted sleaze rock anthem ever. It’s the type of track that Johnny Thunders should have written. Now that The Erotics have a label behind them, Overit records and major distribution through Ryco/Warner this band may finally reap their just rewards. Rating out of 10: 9.5 Review by Thomas S. Orwat, Jr. www.glam-metal.com With each new release, The Erotics always, without fail, remind me why I love sleazy flash metal, why songs about sex, action, degeneration, chicks, addiction, and teenage drag queens are the best kind of songs, and why rock n’ roll will never die. Unless Mike Trash and company decide they’re gonna blow it up once and for all, which they come dangerously close to doing on 30 Seconds Over You. But they don’t thankfully, and instead The Erotics further cement themselves as the unsung heroes of the underground rock and glam scene, their arena rock ethos of larger than life confetti storms and snarly punk rock audacity a not-so-subtle reminder to rock out, baby, with your cock out. -Jeff Sleazegrinder.com The Erotics are electrifying the world of rock-n-roll with a fistful of snarl and a full dose of snotty attitude and sneers. Lead by founding member Mike Trash, The Erotics, Trash (Lead Guitar, Vox), Billy Belaire (Bass/Backup Vox) and Johnny Riott (Drums/Percussion),with the new addition of Rachel Toxic on guitar, deliver unapologetically raw rock-n-roll with unabashed reality, infectious hooks, and a sly knack for sarcasm. From the punk rock beginnings of their debut release Born To Destroy through the decadent and delinquent bluesy releases 21st Century S.O.B. and All That Glitters Is Dead, The Erotics with their latest CD Rock-N-Roll Killing Machine have cultivated a sound harking back to the days when rock-n-roll was real, dirty, and unwashed. But with an ear for catchy refrains, sleazy riffs, driving rhythms, and more low-slung guitar swagger then a surly James Dean, The Erotics have set themselves apart by not only capturing the essence of rock-n-roll rebellion, but also by infusing it with a new, refreshing sound that could very well be what saves it. Live The Erotics are masters of the stage. Trash captivates the audience with his engaging vocals and commanding guitar performance while Billy and Johnny pull in all the corners, refusing to let the audience passively dismiss the band. Audiences have proved highly receptive with vocal interactions, crowd participation, and brisk merchandise sales. Banter revolving around past and upcoming shows has fueled curiosity and legend, drawing more and more fans with every performance. Following the release of Rock-N-Roll Killing Machine, 2005 was a busy year for Trash and his cohorts. With the CD garnering rave reviews and a buzz stretching around the globe, the band struck out on its most ambitious touring schedule yet. Embarking on their first European tour with dates across England and Italy coupled with a cross country jaunt from New York to Hollywood, the band continued to build on a growing groundswell of support that looks to push the band into the next level of notoriety and infamy. The coming year looks to be as busy as ever with plans to return to the studio as well as a more extensive European touring schedule to capitalize on The Erotics growing international fan base. As one of the best kept (not-so) secrets in rock, The Erotics are riding the wave of the new rock-n-roll resurgence and are leading the charge, poised to expose themselves and sleazy, kick-a** rock-n-roll to the entire world.
