October 13th, 2007 ANOTHER BREAKOUT CD FROM THE BOSTON MUSIC SCENE Cameron Lister OPEN LIAR Open Liar is an emotionally powerful exploration of dark and timeless themes – the search for love, and its loss, the despair and uncertainty of youth and yearning, death and human cruelty. But this strong follow-up to Lister’s EP length debut “Shades of London” also references hope and the deep satisfaction of love gone right. The universal appeal of stories about the pain, gain and ambivalence of maturing emotional judgement shines through many of the songs. On the driving rhythms and tuneful narrative of “You’re No Good For Me”, lyrics co-written with Erin Barra, Lister smilingly confesses the original concept was finding a metaphor for Erin’s quitting smoking! And “If You’re Going To Go” (“then leave your key….make it quick ‘cause this is killing me”) puts the end of a relationship in a nutshell. The multi-talented Boston-based twenty four year old (singer, guitarist, songwriter and lyricist, not to mention engineer and producer) finds inspiration everywhere. In “Gone”, a television news report of a soldier’s death in Iraq becomes a touching tone poem of two broken hearts, one by a bullet and one by a mother’s loss. “She Cries” is the tragedy of an acquaintance who first leaves an abusive relationship, and then is inexorably drawn back into it. “Crash” is his deeply personal take on the trust required as love begins – and “Times Like This” a hymn of quiet happiness and gratitude to his beloved. Both musically and lyrically, the songs of OPEN LIAR cross generational boundaries, showing Lister’s instinctive storytelling talents. “Doorway Conversation”, co-written with George Creighton while Lister was still a student (Berklee College of Music), is an understated and melancholy history of blue-collar marriage breakdown “You worked days, I worked nights, on jobs that barely paid….doorway conversation is all we ever had.” OPEN LIAR debuts October 13th at Kenny’s Castaways in New York and October 27th at Tommy Doyle’s in Boston.
