Joyce Dozier McNichols Born the first of six children in a small town in Alabama, Joyce Dozier McNichols remembers growing up in an environment filled with gospel music. " I would wake in the morning and go to bed at night listing to gospel music. Joyce Dozier McNichols adds, “my dad was the lead singer for a gospel quartet group and when I was a little girl, I remembered people like Sam Cook, The Five Blind Boys, The Jackson Southernaires and Bobby “Blue” Bland, stopping by our house to visit my dad whenever they were in town singing at some churches in our area”. The Dozier family moved to Los Angeles, California when Joyce was eight years old and her father noticing the talent within his own family, formed a family group called The Dozier Singers. “The group initially consisted of my father and four brothers said Joyce,” Later on, along with my sister, mother and a couple of cousins, sister-in-law and myself joined the group, thus becoming, Rev. Raymond Dozier and The Dozier Singers”. The group recorded three albums one which was on New Dawn Records distributed by A&M Records. Joyce Dozier McNichols later joined the contemporary five man gospel group The Brothers in Christ; recording two critically acclaimed top ten charted albums on the New Dawn Records imprint own by her husband Dr. Marlin McNichols and Mickey Shapiro. The Brothers in Christ had major success in the UK, Germany and France. The groups UK chart topping album “Twinkle of an Eye” rewarded them with the privilege and honor being the opening act for the World renowned Clark Sisters UK tour. Joyce Dozier McNichols cut her teeth as a background studio vocalist in Los Angeles working alongside the likes of “The Waters”, who is the most successful background vocalist recording group in the history of RnB and Pop music. Their voices are heard on more hit records than any background singers in the history of the music business. From that union and experience she began to develop her background vocal arranging skills and also as a lead vocalist. It wasn’t until Joyce Dozier moved from Los Angeles to Michigan that her music gifted really blossomed into what it is today. Her anointed skills as a palmist, writer, author, lead vocalist, arranger and studio producer came full circle. She has produced and written songs for gospel recording artist, Regina Boyd, Sandra Hudson formally of the Whitfield Singers, The Four Tops Obie Benson wife, song writer and Jazz vocalist Val Benson. Joyce Dozier McNichols pinned four songs and co-produced with Dr. Marlin McNichols, the much talk about Angel Dove Praise live various Praise and Worship Leaders compilation album and DVD, “ A Worship Experience”, featuring some of the leading Praise and Worship leaders in Christian and gospel music such as The Stellar Awards 2004 New Female Gospel Vocalist of the year Martha Munizzi, Karl Reid of Commissioned, Javen Campbell, lead actor in the film “One Night With The King”, Keith Dobbins Praise and Worship Leader from Paula Whites Ministry, Christian and gospel Church and conferences most sought after Praise and Worship leaders Nicole and David Binion, Regina Boyd, and Word Network Net Work host and recording artist “Lexi”. Joyce Dozier McNichols God's giving talent was brought to the attention of gospel artist Fred Hammond and Fred enlisted the her services as creative consultant for his CD cover projects and creative set designer for The Commissioned Reunion CD and DVD on Verity Records. When call upon to write songs for a special music compilation album project, which called for songs that demonstrated and capture the heart and soul of the urban Sunday morning church service, Joyce Dozier McNichols contributed several anointed songs for the soon to be worldwide released recording on Angel Dove Praise, “WOW” “The Joy Of Urban Worship and Praise”, produced by Michael Allen and Joyce Dozier successful music executive husband Dr. Marlin McNichols. The music production sounds main stream and song sung were by anointed Praise and Worship leaders. The song lyrics will minister to the spirit of the body of Christ, delivering and breaking down barriers of strong holes in people’s lives, healing to their bodies, and bringing the joy of worship in time of need. Besides written and co-producing Detroit’s own and well know vocalist Rev. Ortheia Barnes Kennerly new single “Brand New”. Also, Joyce Dozier McNichols has just completed her new single “The More I Seek You”, co-produced with legendary hit producer, engineer, and musician Dale Ramsey (“Ram Track”). "I've always for some reason were drawn to male vocalist such as James Taylor, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke and Luther Vandross. I think it was the fact that they all processed such unique ways of how they could deliver a vocal performance and the treatment of the song, whereby you could actually feel what they were singing about. And from the female prospective Amy Grant has to be right up there as one of my all time favorites because I like her style and deliver and she remains me of Joni Mitchell who is one of my absolute favorite". Being a writer myself, if I had the opportunity to write for a Gospel artist, it would be the legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Ms. Shirley Caesar.
