Richmond, Virginia’s The Catalyst return with a pummeling new 13 track disc of filthy, feedback-soaked, noisy rock, compiling songs from last year’s Marianas Trench 12” EP, their split 7” with Brainworms, and split 12” with Mass Movement of the Moth. Recorded in sessions over 2006 and 2007, \'Marianas Trench + 9\' is easily the band\'s most powerful and mature release to date, capturing their signature melodic-yet-noisy hardcore sound as they continue to draw influence from the pure power and intensity of postpunk/grunge/hardcore legends: Nirvana, the Jesus Lizard, the Melvins, Mudhoney, Black Flag, and others. All songs for this disc have been remixed and given a full remastering by Carl Saff (Red Sparowes, Grails, etc). And this beautifully packaged cd comes with a full color layout, complete with lyrics and some truly eye-popping artwork featuring an abundance of marine life. Praise for Marianas Trench+9 and previous releases: “This fuzzed out, distorted noise-fest of grueling bass, pummeling drums, and disjointed guitars is a serious headfuck. Compiled from previous eps, it unsettles and unnerves. In a good way. Fans of (early) Nirvana and Sonic Youth should find this capable of itching a scratch.” - ROCKSOUND “Melding a whole heap of styles and influences into their feral sound – one minute they’re a slow-burning Kyuss, the next they’re Botch on steroids and then they’re At The Drive In – we like this. A lot.” – ROCKSOUND “a healthy dose of incredibly dirty yet still heavily melodic three piece rock \'n roll… warm and driving bass melodies accompanied with howling guitar work possessing borderline psychedelic tendencies.” - LAMBGOAT.COM “They effortlessly transition from tactfully abrasive noise rock into loose, quirky indie riffs; there\'s thick, grungy, fuzzed out rhythms and sludgy feedback aplenty; plus throbbing basslines and pounding, bashing percussion; while the vocals are generally lightly distorted shouts and screams.” – AVERSIONLINE.COM \"Heavy post hardcore stoner grunge screamo heaviness from these Richmond Virginia noisemakers. Grinding, pummeling, super distorted and angular post punk, but with some serious groove, and vocals that go from howled to screeched to crooned (well almost), killer riffs, filthy and heavy, pounding drums, mathy and chaotic, think Jesus Lizard, Scratch Acid, Mudhoney, Halo Of Flies, the Melvins, lots of Amrep, some Sub Pop, and here and there, Nirvana at their noisiest and heaviest.\" - AQUARIUS RECORDS.ORG \"Unleashing a heavy cacophony of noisy sound, The Catalyst’s brand of stick-to-your-guts rock is one that simply can not be denied.\" - SOUND AS LANGUAGE.COM \"Squeals and peels in expert fashion with heavy, noisy, hardcore/rock and disgusting levels of distortion on everything.\" - PUNKNEWS.ORG \"The best elements of grunge, stoner rock and post punk... an explosive combination that can nearly contain itself.\" - UNDER THE VOLCANO \"If you love noisy hardcore, grungy, sludgy stoner rock or anything in between, then the Catalyst should be on your radar.\" - DELUSIONS OF ADEQUACY
