Fennessy Her first full-length solo release features some of Barbara Manning's catchiest compositions, the most infectious of which include the poignant "Every Pretty Girl" and propulsive "Something You've Got (Isn't Good)." The bittersweet title track, "Scissors," features the sound of scissors opening and closing as part of the rhythm track (producing a lulling, metronome-like effect). Another notable track, "Mark E. Smith & Brix," is an ode to the leader of the Fall and his ex-wife/sometimes collaborator. It's performed in the distinctively minimalist style of the Young Marble Giants and features another unique rhythmic touch -- "sampler of coins crashing."
