She has appeared with numerous international symphony orchestras and in solo piano recitals in musical centers such as the Vienna’s Konzertverein, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Edinburgh University, New York’s Weill Hall, Merkin Hall and Boston’s Jordan Hall amongst others. An avid chamber music player, Ms. Olevsky has collaborated with distinguished instrumental and vocal soloists as well as with chamber groups such as the Berlin Philharmonic Festival Soloists, the Olewsky Trio and the Lark Quartet. She appears regularly at the Mohawk Trail Chamber Music Concerts and the Wistariahurst Chamber Players Series in Massachusetts. Her recordings include Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, Richard Strauss’ Burleske for Piano and Orchestra, the Complete Mozart Works for Violin and Piano with Julian Olevsky (Doremi), the Complete Brahms Piano Trios, Tschaikowsky and Arensky Piano Trios and “Chopin in Majorca” ( the last three are live performances). The son of a professional violinist. he began his studies at age seven. In 1935, the family moved to Argentina where Olevsky became a scholarship pupil of the Russian violinist Alexander Petschnikoff (1873-1949), a student of Leopold Auer who had performed and recorded with the Berlin Philharmonic. Olevsky made his recital debut at 10 and his orchestral debut at 12 in Buenos Aires under the baton of Fritz Busch. A series of recitals and orchestral appearances throughout South America ensued. In 1947 he immigrated to the United States where in 1949 he played a highly acclaimed Town Hall debut. He subsequently became an American citizen. For the next three decades, Julian Olevsky performed widely in Europe, the Far East, North and South America, New Zealand and Israel. He appeared as soloist with major symphony orchestras, including the Chicago, Pittsburgh, Montreal and Gewandhaus Symphony Orchestras as well as the Vienna and Japan Philharmonic Orchestras. Olevsky performed under the batons of Fritz Reiner, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa, Paul Kletzki, Julius Rudel, Herman Scherchen and William Steinberg. His recorded repertoire includes the Bach Sonatas and Partitas, the Complete Handel Sonatas for Violin and Harpsichord (with Fernando Valenti) and the Complete Mozart Sonatas for Violin and Piano (with Estela Kersenbaum Olevsky) works by Fritz Kreisler and Concerti by Vivaldi, Brahms, Bruch, Lalo, Mendelssohn and Wieniawski. Olevsky had a distinguished career as a teacher. He was Professor of Violin at the University of Massachusetts from 1967 until 1985. PAUL OLEFSKY is Emeritus Professor of Music from the University of Texas at Austin. He has performed and conducted master classes internationally including master classes at Oxford and Cambridge, sponsored by the European String Teachers Association. His students fill key positions as professors and principals worldwide. He was awarded first prize of the prestigious Naumburg and Michael Memorial International Solo Competitions. He matriculated from the classes of legendary greats Piatigorsky and Casals. After graduating from Curtis Institute of Music, he appeared as a soloist and the youngest principal cellist with the Philadelphia Orchestra in Carnegie Hall under Maestro Ormandy. He is a solo recording artist for the Americus Records, Amatius Classics, Monitor, Musical Heritage, Vox, and Voice of America Records, and his broadcast credits include NBC, CBS and BBC-London. He was on the jury panels of the Piatigorsky International Competition (Violoncello Society of New York), and Interlochen International Competition (General Motor & Seventeen Magazine). Prof. Olefsky has been awarded the Mary Helen Thompson Centennial Professorship and was the director of the UT Plan II Chamber Music Program in the College of Library Arts.
