Mac Lowe, a lyrical rapper from Southern California who is making a name for himself as well as bringing light to a new west coast music. Inspired by a teacher’s aid in elementary school who challenged the class to write a rap song; the then 7 year old Mac was introduced to being an MC. 22 year old Mac began writing his own short songs at the age of 11 and battling the older kids during school lunch time. He quickly realized he had a way with words, his clever and sometimes witty rhymes made him very popular among his peers. Like most inner-city youths, Mac had a love for the game of basketball and dreams of that being his vehicle to success. However, upon entering High School and comparing his physical stature and skill level to the other players, he decided to focus solely on music. In the rap arena size wasn’t a factor. His lyrical ability now gave him the advantage over his peers. He began to study hip hop and became a student of the game. Learning from the styles of artists like Tupac, Jay-Z, Andre 3000 and Kanye West, he began to form his own style. Also taking note of Hip Hop music moguls such as Russell Simmons, Ice Cube and Diddy, he decided to make his passion for music his business. During his senior year of High School, Mac’s skills soon caught the eye of other aspiring artists in his neighborhood. Mac began to collaborate with three fellow hip hop hopefuls. The foursome, known as, Royal Fam began to record and distribute their music at school and in the community. The group created such a buzz on campus, that the Principal called them into his office to check their backpacks, he suspected they were selling drugs because students were constantly crowding the boys with money in hand. To the Principal’s surprise and relief, all he found was CD’s, envelops and rubber bands. Led by Mac and producer, Lee Danger, the group participated in the school’s talent show. Despite the chants of the crowd, the judge’s decision went to a solo act. That decision did not discourage Mac or his team. With the help of administration, the group set up a lunch period concert that featured them alone and helped to promote sales. Currently, as a solo artist, Mac continues with his “Go Hard” mentality and work ethic. Every morning he writes and rehearses lyrics as a part of his work out. He calls this session “breakfast”. In an attempt to gain more fans and the respect of other artist, Mac began weekly webisodes on YouTube entitled “Mac Lowe Monday”. Campaigning on Twitter and Facebook he gains more fans every week, who continue to be impressed with his covers of popular songs. He has also taken a group of younger rappers ranging in age from 9 to 15 years old under his wing. They meet at their church in Long Beach, CA. where he teaches them all he knows about being an MC. To further himself in the business he performs his music in clubs from Los Angeles to the Inland Empire, all while recording his album. Mac Lowe is an artist whose sound touches on everything from Hip Hop, R&B and even Rock. His competitive attitude drives him to be the best on any song and the work ethic he learned from his Father keeps him going until he’s satisfied he has produced a quality product. Mac is perfecting his craft and is sure to have a hand in the new wave of West Coast music.
