TAKE is unusual, intense music with thoughtful, image-driven lyrics taking on politics, philosophy, religion, money, war, fear, and the way people treat each other. Erich and Jesse both lived in Ann Arbor for six years, yet never met. Jesse went to the bar where Erich worked, and Erich carded him at the door. They nodded at each other but did not exchange words. Jesse saw Erich's band play once by accident and liked them, but did not know them by name. Erich and Jesse were at the same Luna show at the Blind Pig in 2003, but they did not see each other there. In 2006, they both moved to Denver. A year passed, and they both answered an ad posted on Craigslist looking for band members. The resulting project, The Laughing Academy, was not long for this world, but now that they had finally met, there was no going back. Choosing the name "Take," they holed up in Erich's apartment for three days, during which they did nothing but eat, sleep, and write music. The resulting album, TAKE, took about three weeks to record and master. Pleased with the result, they began rehearsing a live show, practicing at Leopold Bros. distillery in northeast Denver, thanks to the kind support of Todd and Scott Leopold (www.leopoldbros.com). Over the next few months, they began playing shows at Denver landmarks such as Herman's Hideaway, the Larimer Lounge, and the Meadowlark. Tours of the southwest, the midwest, and the east coast followed soon after. Currently, Take is working on their second full-length album, tentatively titled ANIMAL ECONOMY. Take's dedication to the craft of songwriting, and their multi-layered approach to live performance, make them one of the few bands whose energy, appeal, and cultural relevance are equally matched.
