Evolution : : a process of continuous change from a lower, simpler, or to a higher, more complex, or better state (Mirriam Webster Dictionary) Nothing speaks more true of Jason Kemp's latest release. The journey that has ended in the delivery of six years of constant honing in the craft of wordsmithing and arrangement can only be described as breathless. From the opening track "I'm still there" which chronicles the hopes and dreams, yet details the experiences of the trubadour complete with pictures easily painted within the minds eye, to "Rivertown" delivering a romantic view of growing up on the river banks of a small town and the close lifelong relationships that are formed in in close commune. As always, Kemp's view on life and his ability to chronicle the more nitty gritty subjects that other artists find difficult, is easily transposed through tracks like"Roy Orbison's Epiphone" which tells of a lonely observant heart yet takes on world issues, to"Heartland Express" co-written with "Vince Melamed" (Walk Away Joe) that deals with serendipity with ease. His ability to be able to speak on behalf of his generation and more often than not, his own experience can be found in tracks like "Buck You" which he claims happened a few years ago, tie it together with his solid defence of Country Music and you have a song that will have you gassing the pedal. "We've Tried" is a thank you to his father and a promise to his son yet a subtle recognition of the difference of the generations. His vocal ability is also put to the test through the more traditional foot stomping George Jones feeling track "Making Good Time" Still more surpising is his range of delivery through"Docks" written with fellow PIM rostered artist, author/composer Jason Carson. Standout tracks that take the listener through tumultous jouneys are "The Collector" , a revelated dedication to the late Johnny Cash , "Right Where I'm Supposed to Be" written with Janey Street (Under the Clock) which takes you on a world wide journey of discovery and "The Bones, The Buckle and the Bible" A truley haunting recollection of a familiar tragic family circumstance. All over I have to say that complete with an impressive line up of musicians, engineers, vocalists and an unmistakable faultless Michael Flanders production to the artwork on the front cover this album is truley a standout, and I believe a collectable work of art that will continue to impress, surprise and please for many years to come, an unmissable addition to anyones collection.
