“A fantastic duo providing operatic vocals accompanied by wistful guitar melodies” (Chaos Theory @ Blag Club) The Statues is an acoustic folk-rock band formed by duo Reuben Bard-Rosenberg and Harriet Boulding from North London. Reuben and Harriet first met at Cambridge, and started making music in London in 2009. Since then, the duo have been gigging regularly including venues such as Blag Club, Water Rats, Hoxton Underbelly and the Green Note, receiving accolades for their song-writing and unique brand of ethereal rock. Driven by the lyrical talent of guitarist/songwriter Reuben, and singer/songwriter Harriet, The Statues write their own material drawing on the influences of musical poets Leonard Cohen, Tori Amos and Joseph Arthur. The band has been flying the past few months, producing some truly beautiful songs and receiving excellent reviews. In September they played at royal festival ‘Start’ after being spotted at a gig by a Live Nation Scout. After the successes of the summer, The Statues (formally The Avatars) decided it was time for a new name which didn’t conjure up images of pointy blue people. They hope that they will continue to grow as songwriters and poets under the new name, putting their talent for evoking the landscapes of nature and emotion to good use during the coming months. The band has just recorded its first album at Joe Public studios, an experience which they thoroughly enjoyed. Ashes at the Dawn will be released on Weds 15th December.
