While the first and third movements are meditative in character with a slow tempo, the second and fourth movements are fast and wild in character. DELTA for Oboe and Strings. Op. 95 (1984 – 85) Tonkünstlerorchester Vorarlberg conducted by Manutchehr Sahbai Oboe: Heidrun Pflüger Among Mashayekhi´s compositions DELTA is an unusually quiet piece.  A friend has suggested and Golsabahi, a writer on Mashayeki´s works, concurs that the graphic of DELTA’s score is reminiscent of the Greek letter DELTA. DELTA belongs to the second compositional period of Mashayekhi, called “Relative Music”, where different dimensions become dominant elements in shaping the musical form. This composition consists of Gestalts that develop to their climaxes and return to a musical thoughts. The repetition of this process leads to greater tension and finally the composition comes to an unexpected end. The Cello Concerto No. 3 is composed in one movement and is a “Meta – X” work, meaning it is formed by using thematic, athematic as well as Persian and non-Persian elements.  Mashayekhi´s repertoire for violoncelllo consists of numerous compositions including three Cello Concertos, five Sonatas for Cello and Piano, “Variant”, “Letters” and “Tonalian” for Cello and Tape, and “Sinfonietta” for Cello and Orchestra.  META – X No. 5, for Piano and Flute recorder Orchestra.
