简介
It's no secret that I am a jazz performer and a music composer. I know how to spice things up a little bit when it's appropriate to do so. But I also know when it's not appropriate. There are times when simple is better. I enjoy using traditional Christmas hymns as jazz songs to improvise on. I enjoy writing complicated arrangements of the hymns that are fun to perform and interesting to the audience. But sometimes I also just want to hear the hymns just the way they were meant to be sung - or in this case - played on the trumpet. This recording is a collection of completely unadorned, unelaborated hymns. I resisted the urge to even add grace notes that I would normally play if I was performing a hymn in public. I wanted these to be as simple and plane as possible. Nothing extra added to the original melodies. The traditional hymns are quite capable of standing on their own. Their melodies are complete. There is no need for accompaniment. No need for any extras to make them beautiful. Like the "Lilies of the Field", they are clothed in their own beauty.
