简介
"The Ballad of the H.L. Hunley and other songs of the war between the states" is a collection of original and cover songs about that epic conflict in American history. The title track: "ballad of the H.L.Hunley" is a tale of the legendary Confederate submarine which sank a Union ship and then mysteriously sank herself; lost for over a century. Her resurrection and the military funerals of her crew inspired John Pronk, Joe Pafume and Steve Hartz to join forces and tell the Hunley story in song. Other tracks: "Shiloh Meeting House", "Rockbridge Artillery", "Shermans' Boot", and "the Day After Appomattox" tell of epic battles and legendary battalions. "Finally Free" by Bob Mansfield is an highly emotional journey thru the first days of freedom for southern slaves; as sung by the gifted young African American vocalist Isaiah Bailey. A slight twist comes in the form of "Jai' Passe' Devant Ta Porte" by legendary Louisiana band leader Lee Benoit. It's a splendid cover of a popular tune during the civil war among French speaking soldiers from South Louisiana. Every song was recorded acoustically for an authentic sound. Steve Hartz even played pre 1920's guitars, mandolin and bass on his wonderful tune: "Kansas Plains". Many tunes were penned by famed Texas and Oklahoma songwriters with bodies of work about the civil war era. People like Jed Marum, Steve Hartz, Joe Pafume and Bob Hodges. "We all wanted the songs to be historically accurate, but very personal and emotional; stories with impact" says producer John Pronk. He along with producer/engineer George Dykes spent two years producing the album. “We feel the result is a collection of musical Americana which both the civil war historian and casual listener will enjoy having in their library”.
