Forrest Hill is a singer songwriter living in the San Francisco Bay Area. He began writing and performing music in 1977 while hitchhiking and hopping freight trains across the country. In 1980, he co-founded the Boston based funk rock band Judy’s Tiny Head (JTH), which went on to release two successful EPs. The 1985 single My Car, produced by Will Garret (now chief engineer at Spotify), enjoyed copious amounts of air play in Boston and became a top 20 hit on college radio. Later, the band recorded with famed producer Teddy Riley and signed a management contract with legendary music executive Gene Griffin, before disbanding in 1989. Over the intervening years, Forrest continued to write and perform music at bars and coffee houses on Cape Cod while earning a PhD from MIT. He moved to California in 2000 and began performing on the streets of Davis, while working as a postdoctoral researcher in ecology. In 2002, he moved to Oakland and over the next 12 years continued to hone his song writing skills while working as a financial planner, running for political office, teaching financial literacy to inmates at San Quentin prison and co-leading a large meditation group. In 2013, Forrest met his current wife, Erika, who inspired him to record again. The result is his first solo album, “Rust”, marking his return to the recording studio after 25 years. The album combines poetic lyrics with folk and indie rock styles to produce a sound that is uplifting, soulful and personal. “Music can move the soul and bring us into the present moment in ways that are not always accessible to us in our busy lives,” Forrest said. “So much of our difficulties have to do with wanting to be somewhere else, or wishing we had something else in our lives to makes us happy. When we step into the now, we become intimate with the mystery of life and our connection to all things. Music has the power to pull us in that direction. It helps us see our true nature and open us up to what is good about life.” Forrest is currently preparing to record his next album in 2017. It is dedicated to all those that believe we are never too old to create what is truly in our hearts or open up to a song that inspires us.
