Inspired by the concepts of self similarity as applied to musical lines, the piece is based on four gradually expanding 12-tone rows. The trumpets and flugelhorn perform long tones and cadential staccato patterns. The layered tones create chordal harmonies in organ-like fashion. The basses form intervallic ostinato patterns in 7/4 time with the drums and cymbal providing accents and an undercurrent of rhythmic momentum.
