Based in Paris, Synapse is a collaboration between Amy Gamlen (from England), Karl Jannuska (Canada), and Pierre Perchaud (France). Despite growing up in different countries, the trio has found common ground in their ecclectic tastes. As ironic as that may sound, their diverse tastes (Villa Lobos, the Shaggs, Steve Lacy, Bob Dylan, Ornette Coleman, Nobukazu Takemura, Egberto Gismonti to name a few influences) have united the trio giving them a wide palette of ideas and sounds to pull from. Each member composes for the trio. While each musician has an individual style, their compositions fit together like a puzzle, completed by two arrangements of Bulgarian folk songs and a cover of the standard, "Skylark" (which is unlike any other recorded version...). The uncommon instrumentation of alto/ soprano sax, acoustic/ electric guitar and drums/ percussion give this trio a unique colour with a sound that is rich and warm yet spacious. Synapse - the space where melody and rhythm harmonize.
