On "Better With Headphones" I wrote a bunch of tunes and played out the forms vocals lyrics and overall arrangement with the feel I envisioned. I recorded using RODE mic with Daking preamp and Daking compressor with pro tools. Played basses guitars pianos for all parts essential to arrangement and feel. Then sent tracks to friends to play other parts as needed. All but two singers on this record have highly capable studios and were able to record tracks and send them back to me. I allowed each musician a lot of time to sit with the music and be patient and encouraged them to play it the way they felt it. I changed very little. Having recorded four records with my old band Mango Jam from Minneapolis, I have a lot of experience recording in studios with producers, engineers and timelines, it's been great to be free of deadline pressures and loosen things up. Minneapolis Drummer David Russ recorded on 9 tracks in his studio,bIAS. Jared Rush recorded Hammond, melodica, and piano at his studio, Sugar Sound. Kenny Wilson recorded his pedal Steel at Kenny's House of Sound. The mastery heard throughout the album on fretless bass, 8-string piccolo bass, back up vocals, guitars and mixing genius is by Trip Wamsley whose talent is unsurpassed. Trip recorded his parts and mixed the album in his studio Glitch Kitchen. Finally, the album was Mastered by Matt Moss at Matt Moss Music. As this release unfolds, I will be updating info. This record has been a personal goal for quite a while now and I'm excited for people to hear it.
