简介

Undressed Rehearsals 1991-1994 Miss World the band was formed in 1991 around singer, writer Jonathan Perkins, featuring Jimmy Taylor on guitar, Martin Chambers on drums, Peter No-one on bass and managed Mick Rossi. The band released one LP for Anxious Records via east west records called MISS WORLD produced by Chris Thomas in 1992. They toured the UK, USA and as well as dates in Scandinavia and Europe. Throughout this period they wrote and demoed new songs prolifically in preparation for their second LP with Chris Thomas. “Many of these recordings were thrown together during one or two day sessions, jamming around skeletal chord sequence, riffs and a line or two brought into the studio on the day, unfinished lyrically and musically and therefore simply works in progress. Others were more developed and contrived prior to sessions. They were never meant for anyone else’s ears other than the band, Chris Thomas, publisher and record company The majority of recordings took place at Fundamental studios (The Church) and my publisher’s in house recording studio in Parsons Green, a Radio Hallam Live unplugged session in Sheffield and other studios where credited". The demo songs and recordings featured on the aptly titled Undressed Rehearsals have all been transferred to digital from stereo cassettes so vary widely in quality. They are often unfinished and informal, raw, raging and vulnerable but capture the potential and excitement of the band in her ephemeral prime from 1991 until summer 1994. The MISS WORLD left Anxious Records in 1994 citing musical differences with the record company but reformed for occasional gigs and recording sessions intermittently until 1999. Some of the songs here can be heard in more complete incarnations or pimped hybrids on later LP’s, Draining Venus (Perkins aka Miss World) and the faux Miss World LPs Country & Eastern and Woman’s Hour. Other songs from this period e.g. For Fuck’s sake, Look at me and I am you can be heard on the LP Miss World Accessories 1991 – 1999 (MISSW) Cover Photograph – Rob Goldstein (From the original LP session). The girl is Unity Reagh. Artwork and design Ben White. I’m grateful to Matt Exelby for salvaging and digitising these stereo cassettes and Steve Temby for reanimating and mastering them.
