Welcome to the musical journey of Kim Souther! Classically trained on both piano and cello, Kim spent many years perfecting technique, performing in orchestras, and conducting youth orchestras. After a move away from her Appalachian roots in Virginia, she was homesick and began listening to the bluegrass music she had once rejected. Unsure of how the cello could fit into such a genre, she discovered a new uprising of musicians, bent on changing the way cello is perceived within all musical genres. Her music is constantly evolving and blends as many styles and genres as possible, pushing the boundaries of modern cello playing, and changing the face of multi-genre and without-genre music. Inspired by her time with Yo Yo Ma and the Silk Road Ensembles global musician experience, her latest album seeks to enable those around the world who are doing incredible things for humanity. Proceeds from the album will benefit education in some of the most dangerous areas of the Congo and Southeast Asia and will also aid in providing blankets to the poorest communities of Swaziland.
