For his latest EP, Make Mine Music act Portal (aka Scott Sinfield) has made a concept single about his favourite range of hot beverage sachets, Cadbury’s Options. “I’ll try another Option, I’ll try another way” sings Piano Magic’s Glen Johnson as he reaches for the ‘Belgian Choc’. In all fairness, that might be viewed as a radical interpretation of the text, but I’m sticking by it. Johnson supplies a reinterpretation of the A-side via his ‘Future Conditional Remix’, softening up and modernising the electronics and adding vocals from Klima’s Angele David-Guillou who seems to show up on everything Johnson turns his hand to nowadays. ‘You’re Building Over My Childhood’ is an anti-development opus in the style of New Order, while ‘Slow Burner’ adds Lorraine Ellis’ uncomplicated, wispy delivery to a brooding, slowed down electro-ballad.
