Hymns of the God’s Gardeners, with Lyrics by Margaret Atwood and music by Orville Stoeber, is the companion piece to Margaret Atwood’s new novel, The Year of the Flood, which focuses on a group that appeared in the background of her 2003 novel, Oryx and Crake: The God’s Gardeners. In an attempt to reconcile religion, science, and nature, The Gardeners have developed their own their liturgy, suitable to their beliefs. Music has been composed to the novel’s hymns and is sung by Los Angeles composer Orville Stoeber in the spirit of the Gardeners themselves. Stoeber majestically sings the hymns on the CD accompanied by Ted Perlman on bass and Nelson Bragg on percussion.
