简介
“Listen to their music you see where they get their style from/ all these false kings-corners stores is where their crowns from/ momma always told me ‘boy them clowns you stay from round them’ they not on your wavelength they step up then you drown them…” Yaves cautiously spouts on the heavy drum coated track of ‘Rumble Young Man’. Its 12:35AM and we are witnessing the 7th hour of a session that has birthed 4 works of art. Late nights like this at his Columbus based studio compound are common for the Ohio bred emcee; however the energy of this project is far from the norm. Yaves has enlisted a solid team to help craft the look and feel of ‘In Winters Ear’. From the production down to the direction of the artwork, this project has been the perfect mixture of strategy meets organic creation. To help with the sonic outcome of the EP Yaves linked up with Texas based Grammy nominated (Eminem: The Marshall Mathers LP 2) engineer Maurice ‘Malex’ Alexander. The two begin building a relationship after meeting back in October of 2014 and have created a consistent workflow which is sure to increase the output of new music from Yaves in the coming year. The ‘In Winters Ear’ EP offers the originality and unique story telling style that Yaves has always offered his listeners, but from what we hear so far, this project will outshine the previous efforts. With honest lyricism Yaves makes a statement that will be respected, there is a re-energized and refined sound that the listener will be sure to feel. On ‘Blood Covered Snow’ Yaves paints a vivid image of the time he was set up to be murdered and how the assault changed his life forever. Produced by Ron Riley, this track feels cinematic and almost as if it should be the score to a motion picture film. With ‘Say That’ Yaves pulls in Dee-1 and Sivion to paint over the FrankBoy produced track. Dee-1 who recently was featured on the BET Cypher laces a heavy southern accented verse accompanied by Sivion’s smooth yet in your face approach. One of the highlights of the project would have to be ‘Revolver’ which features Keisha Solei. Solei is an eclectic artist/producer who has worked with the likes of J-Rawls and The Harmony Project. Revolver screams revolution, the feel of the drums take you back to the nostalgia of 1993 right in the middle of the golden era of hip-hop. This track encompasses everything Yaves stands for; creativity, challenging the culture, and wordplay that never disappoints.
