Plan A was born in Brooklyn, NY. Its group concept is based on playing original music written with respect to the heritage of jazz, while also expressing its own voice as a trio. Two constants of Plan A are its personnel and its commitment to evolution (No, we're not Darwinists, we mean PERSONAL evolution--I know, I know, by explaining that we might loose our scientific audience). The resulting sound combines the tradition of Grant Green, the spirit of John Coltrane, and the innovation of Medeski, Martin, and Wood. Their debut album yields a variety of influences including modern jazz, free jazz, blues, electronica, classical, groove, and latin. Each track combines the energy of a live performance with the nuance of a modern studio recording. Each piece recorded here reflects influences both individual and collective. Heart and Soul is in this music. Within these tracks lies the clearest possible expression of a collective sound. The music recorded here is a declaration. Having progressed to a point of creativity, the intent became to express a new freedom. This CD captures a band in their creative germination and spirited beginning.
