Diane Taraz offers songs that celebrate sweet memories of lives we have shared. She ranges through various styles, from Celtic to bluegrass to her own compositions, influenced by centuries of melodies that provide comfort and lift spirits. Diane's crystalline voice is backed with her elegant guitar and sweet dulcimer. Bluegrass master Darol Anger adds soaring fiddle on the classics "Wayfaring Stranger" and "Will the Circle Be Unbroken." Larry Luddecke on piano gives a gospel tinge to Diane's powerful arrangement of "The Water Is Wide" in a medley with "Wade in the Water." Half the songs are new and half come from Diane's previous recordings. Among the new tracks is a rich arrangement of Gwyneth Walker's choral setting of Tennyson's poem "Crossing the Bar" and a light-hearted rendition of the old sailor's farewell, "Fiddler's Green." Michael Smith's classic "The Dutchman" celebrates love that transcends the losses of age, and Diane's own "Your Truest Friend" hopes for a love that conquers the passage of time. Diane includes her beautiful a cappella songs "Amaryllis" and "Normandy," set to Irish melodies. Her dulcimer provides the base for an elemental "Amazing Grace," and she presents a brand-new song, "All Along the Journey," set to the beloved folk tune "Shenandoah." The CD ends with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," with Billy Novick's wistful whistle evoking those happy little bluebirds who fly beyond the clouds, carrying us with them to a place of peace.
