简介

The second studio album by The Dogs, Candy from a Smashed Pinata, is finished and available for airplay. This new offering was recorded at Guerilla Euphonics with Oakland’s own Myles Boisen at the controls. All tracks were recorded on a sixteen track reel to reel machine. Behind the solid songwriting of Kevin Parker, the Dogs play an eclectic blend of reggae, rock and folk, sure to please the discerning audiophile. The first track, Why Not, is inspired by the dying words of psychonaut, visionary and 60s icon Timothy Leary. On Cup of Constant Sorrow the Dogs take a shot at the corporate coffee establishment (one purveyor in particular) as they pay homage to another iconic 60s figure. This one is destined to go viral on Youtube but don’t plan to pick it up at Starbucks! The Dogs are joined on two tracks by The Horndogs a trio of the Bay area’s finest horn players, Tom Bertetta, Tim Devine and Jeff Lewis. Charmed, reminiscent of early Rolling Stones, is raucous diatribe full of quick wit and venom. Wee Mr. Future is a rootsy, reggae track, understated and moving. Jerry, delivered with post punk fervor by Gary Sears, was written as a tribute to the late Edsel Ford Fong, the legendary waiter from San Francisco’s Sam Wo’s restaurant. Both Sides of Heaven is as solid and hooky as a pop song gets, tracking just short of two and a half minutes. Hats off to John Hanes whose infectious drumming drives this one. The closing track is The Wind, a sparse and haunting farewell. The Dogs have, for many years, been a staple of the High Sierra music scene and are currently planning a tour of British Columbia. Candy From a Smashed Pinata is the follow-up to their first CD, Wet Fur.
