Not exactly country but not purely rock either, Before The Fall inhabits an area somewhere between, yet is not country-rock. It does come close with the cover of Flying Burrito Brothers' Christine's Tune, but neither the Burrito's Chris Hillman nor Gram Parsons liked the term, so use it at your peril. Otherwise, the other 10 tracks are Marilyn Smith's own, performed with a full, often exciting, rock attack augmented by banjo and dobro that add that country-roots flavour. If you listen closely, you'll hear other influences from Neil Young to Steve Earle to Lucinda Williams to, at a stretch, Metallica...
