简介
Hailing from along the remote west coast of Newfoundland, Oceanic formed in 2006 as a progressive musical outlet between Corner Brook musician Cameron Lawrence and Port Saunders-raised guitarist Glen O'Keefe. The pair shared a passion for their craft and promptly developed a strong musical rapport, ultimately shaping a unique blend of progressive rock and jazz inspired complexities that both captivates and excites the listener. Oceanic made the move across the Gulf of St. Lawrence to the province of Nova Scotia in 2010. Based out of Halifax, Cameron and Glen began to compile their material in preparation for their first full length album, bringing Parrsboro-raised Michael McPhee into the band as their bassist. After a tumultuous 2 year period from its inital recording in the winter of 2011 until the summer of 2014, Oceanic completed 'Origin', a six song chronicle of their best songs from over the last 8 years. By drawing influences from a great swathe of both the local and international musical landscape, Oceanic's compositions from this album invite the audience to entertain a euphonic concept in which harmony is attained between jarring polyrhythms and refreshing musical excursions. Equally as entrancing are Oceanic's live performances. The band has developed an immersive experience for their audiences, aided heavily by the larger-than-life guitar arrangements and explosive drum epics. People attending an Oceanic show can expect in-your-face guitar riffs soaring above enchanting bass grooves, all the while revolving around thematic drum passages. As an instrumental three piece, the band uses their instruments as their voice to engage their listeners in a way where words often fall short.
