'Losing Balance' was never intended to be released as an actual project. in fact, most of the material on this project was originally written and recorded as a form of therapy (for lack of a better word) as artist Michael Bannerman supported his mother through her battle with and eventual death from a rare terminal illness known as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy or PSP. Like many artists, Michael Bannerman has always considered the studio to be his "happy place" or "retreat" from the outside world. Sometimes on days when dealing with his mother's health was extremely difficult he would hide out there with his guitar and struggle to make sense of it all - penning such raw and emotional tunes as "Sad Song" or "October Sky". At other times the situation was just too much to deal with and the studio became more of an escape for him. At these times Michael would crank up the distortion and lose himself in the pure, unadulterated joy of playing. Tracks such as "Julia" and "All I Want" came forth. Regardless of the intent behind each song or session, eventually a pile of new material began to collect. Friends and family, upon hearing the tunes encouraged Michael to "give them life" and release them to the general public. What soon became clear to Michael was that the songs that he had been writing were actually more than just some "tunes to help get by" but in fact they were the actual musical documentation of a journey - a journey that Michael realized he was not walking alone. So with the understanding that a story is always better understood once it is told and that a burden is always lighter when there are more hands to help carry it... the project was released. Now understand, this is not another one of those dark and moody albums about all that is wrong in the world. Sure, there are songs on here that deal with suffering and pain... but this is NOT an project about death - Rather, it is a celebration of life. While listening you will want to keep your dancing shoes as close by as your box of kleenex because you will definitely be needing both! Now for the question you've all been asking... "Who the heck is Michael Bannerman and why have I never heard of him untill now?" The truth is, you probably have heard of Michael before now and didn't realize it. Although 'Losing Balance' is Michael Bannerman's first "solo" project he is no stranger to the music business. In fact, he's been touring North America now for over 18 years with his bands High Power and Lost Coin. During that time he released 6 nationally distributed projects, won a mantel full of prestigious awards and accolades, opened for some pretty major acts and headlined a number of well known festivals with crowds well over 15,000.
