Jeff Powers, classical guitarist turned singer songwriter, plays a gut-bucket slide on his 3-string Cigar Box Guitar while singing and stomping a tambourine and kick (old trunk) creating his own “gumbo” styled brand of Roots, Blues and Americana. Jeff sounds like Neil Young joined the Black Keys to play a some blues. Before deciding he wanted to formally study music, Jeff went out on the road just looking for something. He hitchhiked down to New Orleans where he worked for weeks at a time on a boat (offshore) and on his free time listened to and learned to play the blues. After about a year or so he decided to make a serious career with music and moved back to his hometown of Cleveland and enrolled and eventually graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Music with a degree in Classical Guitar. Soon after he moved to Mexico City to pursue a classical career performing in concert halls. But Jeff quickly lost his drive to play the rigorous classical guitar recitals. He found there was little room for the creativity welling up inside. So he tossed the tux and put on a bad a** hat and started playing blues clubs and bringing his songs to life. Jeff eventually moved back to the US armed with hundreds of songs and blues guitar riffs and has since recorded 4CDs of original music.
