Stories behind the songs... Television Wrap Gabe asked if I wanted to go to a party to celebrate the completion of a television shooting schedule. Going to a wrap party was a new experience for me, and one that really got me thinking about this business. It really is a different kind of performing when actor and audience are not connected in space or time. Expression is in the eyes of the actor, and communication is by electric charge. Three Times Wrong Sometimes people don’t get a hint, even an obvious one. Dumped three times by the same woman. Her mistake. She just didn’t believe where she belonged. Silver Star A relationship that is nurtured through e-mail, that evolves despite an intervening Ocean. Distance is less traumatic for love than it once was. The silver star was a gift, and I kept it in front of me so it would lead me safely forward… until united. This story has a very happy ending. Silly Things What keeps a relationship alive well into the future. Maybe it’s the silly little things that are the most important. Not About To Go Do people lie about their long-term intentions for immediate pleasures? One Little Moment I asked Alice what I should write about, and she suggested I should write about how your life could change in such a short time. It made me think of the moment that my life changed course. One little moment changes everything. James Bond I have always wanted to be like James Bond. Cool cars, exotic travel, save the world, and then get the girl. Not a bad life. On The Brink I had long forgotten this song, written in a time when I was seeing environmental destruction, social distress, and economic manipulation. Then I visited Peter and he asked me to play On the Brink. I had no recollection. He then vanished, arriving moments later with the words, music, and even chord diagrams, written out at his request many years ago. I relearned the song, and realized that I was still in a time of environmental destruction, social distress and economic manipulation. The song almost didn’t make it to the CD… I think I got good advice. Lazy Man Relationships take effort. If you believe in fate why would you bother trying? This guy loses his woman out of laziness. A story in the C & W tradition. Pool of Sorrow A dear friend gets married too young. The ending is full of complications and sorrow. I felt helpless. Well Read Book This song blends images of telemarketing, political polls, and consumerism. Information is formulated to create profiles and identify groups and behaviours within our population. We are continually providing this data, and the stories of our lives are being written for us. See Your Future A song of images, mostly inspired by things that I did not expect. The collapse of the Berlin wall. The assassination of John Lennon. Once I believed in “determinism”, but now I only see my future when it happens.
