As the soul genre continues to evolve, enter Alexi. His music harkens back to the days of Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder, when soul and pop music combined, creating mainstream music that touched the body and moved the soul. Alexi began writing songs at age eleven. His early influences included Motown and Elvis Presley, but he fell in love with gospel music in high school. He began singing and writing gospel music in high school and throughout college. While attending Tufts University, he continued to hone his songwriting skills, performing at open mics and bars in the Boston area. From 2011 until 2015, he rose steadily in the Boston soul scene, headlining music festivals and performing at numerous universities and colleges in the area. In June of 2015, Alexi moved from Boston to Philadelphia and, upon arriving, won the national "Music Meets Video" contest for his soulful cover of Marlon Roudet's "When The Beat Drops Out." This combination of soul and pop is a balance he strikes expertly as he continues to cultivate his own unique sound in the City of Brotherly Love. Alexi's edgy, high tenor voice is most often compared to Michael Jackson, while his smooth falsetto is reminiscent of El DeBarge. Whether it's a soft ballad that captures the essence of what love is supposed to be, or a high-energy social justice anthem calling for action, Alexi's music is as intimate as it is powerful. In February 2014, Alexi released his first full-length album, "Something Greater," which is currently licensed for use on 14 TV shows across seven major networks including A&E, MTV, VH1, BET, E! Entertainment, and the Discovery Channel.. He has performed for a number of notables, including actors Selma Hayek and Laurence Fishburne and scholars Henry Louis Gates, Cornel West, and Vice President Joe Biden. He has also performed alongside Joshua Redman and sung back-up for Grammy Award winner, Angelique Kidjo. He just made his South By SouthWest Music festival debut in Austin, TX in March of 2017 and is excited to be working on his next full album, "25/8", out of the Breed Studio in Philadelphia and to be released later in 2017.
