Surly Gates is pleased to announce the release of their debut full-length album, Lay Low, on February 11th, 2016. The album is the culmination of two years of recording at studios in and around Austin, Texas, including select tracks by Erik Wofford (The Black Angels, Bill Callahan, White Denim) at Cacophony Recorders, who also mixed and mastered the album. Other tracks were recorded during their Converse Rubber Tracks sessions at South By Southwest 2014. Surly Gates came on the scene with their self-title EP in 2013, which received positive critical acclaim: “Although this Austin ensemble is yet to record their debut full-length, Surly Gates have already created a promising collection of period-perfect gems: Gorgeous harmonies and jangly chords are delivered with a bittersweet loveliness; resurrecting the ghosts of endless summers past." The EP and crafted live performances garnered official SXSW performances in 2014 and 2015. Their 2015 appearance was highlighted by the Austin Chronicle, proclaiming Surly Gates “paints acidic colors on a timeless rock chassis, as much Crazy Horse as 13th Floor Elevators” (Michael Toland).
