Mike MacKenzie's debut release "Natural Causes" is a compelling, eclectic journey through a progressive blues-rock terrain. Natural Causes is simultaneously diverse and unified, with one vision-oriented composer at the helms. Music has always played a huge role in Mike's life. It has led him to a variety of important places and its strength is ever-growing. He has been part of several rock groups since his teenage years, studied jazz at Mount Royal University and jammed the blues at many local clubs. He has held a professional guitar teaching position for nearly a decade, and has been refining his songwriting craft at his home studio for even longer. It is within recent years that he has shifted his main focus to the development and recording of his solo project, and Natural Causes serves as a formal first chapter in this endeavor. Around the time he began putting the building blocks in place for this record (circa 2011), Mike realized he would need to assemble a group to play his music live. Thus, the Mike MacKenzie Band was born. This tour de force features Mike on guitar and vocals as well as a talented cast of characters on keyboards, bass and drums. They have been enjoying an increasing amount of success and shows over the past few years, and are now in the middle of a busy period promoting the album all over Western Canada. With roughly a hundred performances and a hundred songs under their belt, the Mike MacKenzie Band takes Mike's songs to the next level and brings an energy and delivery to every show that is second to none. They are excited about the opportunities this album will bring and aim to continue their ascent towards being a top Canadian act and unforgettable concert experience.
