Sandman began his musical career in the mid-late '60s, a fertile era, for sure. At age fifteen he was signed as a writer to Paradox Music (Elektra). The mundane requirements of high school stifled this endeavor, but a seed was planted. After one year of college, studying acting, Sandman reunited with old friend Michael Packer to form "Papa Nebo", which grew to an eclectic seven-piece band. Their unique sound earned them a record deal with Atlantic. After a moderately successful first album, the band, unfortunately, broke up. Sandman travelled the U.S. doing the coffeehouse thing and after a couple of years reconnected with Michael. Settling in NYC, they formed "Free Beer". Over the next five years, the country-rock band with the sadly appropriate name made three really good albums (Buddha,RCA), toured extensively, and had a little too much fun. Sandman left "the Biz" in 1980, but continued writing and performing on a smaller scale. "Horses to Water" is his first solo album, reflecting his life off and on the road. The songs are raunchy, bittersweet, countrified and jazzy, sprinkled with humor and irony. Apparent are the varied influences of THE BAND, VAN MORRISON, DYLAN, BEATLES,CSNY, BYRDS, EAGLES, PAUL SIEBEL, MERLE HAGGARD, to name a few. Have a listen. Hope you enjoy it !!!
