My name is Omar ‘Smartkid’ Currie, managing Director of Smartkid Records Company Limited founded in 2007. As the years passed, the company grew and it became necessary to launch Smartkid Records’ recording studio which is currently a multipurpose recording studio located in Portmore, St. Catherine. The studio was established in 2010 and is now recognized as one of the best multipurpose recording studios located in Portmore. One of my first projects involved producing and managing upcoming artistes such as Gavodem and BabyIce. Our studio specializes in audio editing and mixing, demo duplicates, vocal recordings, publishing, etc.

I originally started singing at a very early age but found that without adequate support it was not easy to make the transition into the music industry. I am very passionate about music and possess impeccable work ethics. My interest in singing faded but I remained ardent and committed to one day becoming a main player in the music business. I began promoting parties and the results were overwhelming allowing me to use this opportunity to integrate into the music fraternity.

It became obvious that there are many talented people in Jamaica who struggle, like I did, to break into the music arena. It was at that time that I realized that I really wanted to be instrumental in assisting these persons with the honing of their talents and getting them recognized. My dream of becoming a Producer/Manager became actualized through much hard work, persistence and commitment.

I have worked with some of the most renowned entertainers including Zamunda, Lutan Fyah, Spragga Benz, Sizzla, Christopher Martin, Frisko Kid, Andrew and Wadda Blood, Jr.Reid and others. In 2010, the company published the Life Riddim CD which featured artistes like Zamunda, Influential, Bono-G, Lutan Fyah, Linkage Internal and Frisko Kid. The Life Riddim CD is a big hit on the radio stations, YouTube and also in the streets. Currently, the company is working on a new project which is the Venom Rhythm. This rhythm features artistes such as Sizzla, Alva, Zamunda, Spragga Benz, Lutan Fyah, New Kidz, Tajji, Singer Jah and Renegad. This project is in its final stage of completion and will be released soon. Smartkid Records Company Limited is working hard to take the music to the highest level and continue the good work in the music industry that was set by the great Bob Marley and others.
