简介
Go on a solitary journey, with Parklake. “Terraforming (literally, "Earth-shaping") of a planet, moon, or other body is the theoretical process of deliberately modifying its atmosphere, temperature, surface topography or ecology to be similar to the biosphere of Earth to make it habitable by Earth-like life.” (Wikipedia) German multi-instrumentalist Thomas Mattern aka Parklake hails from Heidelberg. His very Kosmische Musik- meet German 1990s Indie Electronica concept album evolves around the idea of creating a new, home-like place to live, through a tough process, without the guarantee to succeed. Terraforming develops from the dawn of Techno and Electronica towards exciting melodic textures that could well be the soundtrack of some Armageddon sci-fi movie from the early 1980s. Have you ever dreamt about embarking to an unknown new world? Without any goal, without any ambitions and plans, only to make this a place to live? How would you feel if you let everything behind and began the journey? What would you face if you did so? “Terraforming” is the soundtrack for your solitary journey to create new worlds. Its sounds will get you further than you ever expected. The title track “Terraforming” invites to the challenge. It kicks off with a pumping bass line and moves into a melodic spacey hook, paying homage to Kraftwerk and John Carpenter soundtracks. No planet is like any other, so forming it to your needs, you will meet many obstacles. “Beat Creation” combines Kosmische Musik with a melancholic Notwist-ish feel. And yes, you might be alone in the cold, cosmic, abandoned desert. Alone with your thoughts, alone with your past life, not sure about the future – and then comes ‘Stay Behind’ to assist you with colorful acidic beats to leave hesitation and fear behind. You know, after the dark, there is always a light. “Herbst” comes along with a luke-warm analogue synth vibe before ‘Bowling Green’’s Downtempo-beats bring us back in time to electronic music pioneers like Tangerine Dream and Wolfgang Riechmann, opening up the space for string and brass arrangements on top of mellow arpeggiator sounds. A lot of work has been done, the new Earth is almost ready. With it, change, hope and passion come back. The humans enter the planet at Heddonfield Illinois, fictionary birthplace of Michael Myers from John Carpenters x movie Helloween. There is breathing and slashing around a synthesized Moog sound you can dance too. Acoustic instruments appear on the last song “Slide”, after the Earth is shaped. Main vocalist Daniela Menger is backed-up by Tanja Wingerter, both singing to the lyrics written by Phil Hofmann. You hear an intense analogue bass played by Axel Kipphan, which finalizes the “Earth-shaping”. Terraforming is a challenge. Once your on this huge, mind-changing journey, there is no more room for doubts. And there is no other way - you have to do this alone. This is the soundtrack for your experience. www.parklake-project.com
