The rhythm section and horns were recorded live on a gloriously analog MCI 2" 24 track tape machine and then transferred to Emu's Paris-Pro in 24 bit digital. The violin, guest artistes and strings were recorded direct to digital using DBX valve mic pre-amps also with 24 bit converters. Sennheiser 441 dynamic mics were used on the trumpets, Sennheiser e845s dynamics on the saxes and Groove Tunes 1A valve condensers on the trombones. Dynamic mics were used around the drums and close overheads, plus 3 condensers around the drum room. The solo violin was recorded with a Rode NTV valve condenser and a Crown GLM 100. James Morrison was recorded with my priceless vintage RCA "Skunk" ribbon microphone and the vocalists and added strings were recorded with a Neumann TLM 103. I hope you enjoy this blend of old and new. Ian Cooper.
