简介
Borrowing from the Americana/Roots tradition but firmly grounded with a pleasing pop sensibility, Jen & Scott Smith's intimate and concise songwriting style, honey-smoked vocals, signature guitar hooks and passionate performances have won them a career supporting base of loyal fans among listeners and the music and film industry alike. They are spending 2003 touring as a duo and with their 6 piece band, incorporating guitars, dobro, Irish bouzouki, drums, percussion B3 organ, piano, and bass guitar in support of their 5th cd release, "Five by Five". Jen & Scott's songwriting credits include cuts on Evangeline's 'French Quarter Moon' (MCA), Troy Turners 'Blues on My Back' (Telarc) and film and tv spots on Brooklyn South, Jack & Jill, The Young & The Restless, That's Life, Second to Die, The Girl Next Door, About Sarah and The Smokers. Awards include the Washington Area Musicians Association Best Female Vocalist in the Rock/Pop, Roots Rock and Contemporary Folk categories. In their own words, "Touching the hearts of an audience is a priceless experience for us. We feel incredibly lucky to have a chance to spend our lives doing what we can to make that happen on each record and at every show." REVIEWS: "Obsessive love, misguided muses, Cupid better not fly around Jennifer or he'll get his little effete wings clipped. But the first rate recording and performances here are far from somber. Telling, catchy & quick. Not only the lost souls will be entranced with Naked Blue." MUSICDISH.COM "Naked Blue is sharper than a razor...and they've produced more and better music than anything you'll hear on commercial radio. Jen's performance is one of the best vocal performances I've heard since I've been reviewing CDS." INDIE-MUSIC.COM "Good music is something that you don't take for granted, and good talent is something that you simply can't ignore. Those are both the case with Naked Blue. Naked Blue presents the kind of good music that makes you sit back and wonder if you've been living under a rock for all this time, and can't understand why you haven't heard it before. I have to say that I was very impressed with this band and their music. The vocals where superb and the music was tight and beautifully orchestrated. There's a difference between being able to carry a tune and being able to really pour yourself into your music. That is what Jen Smith does, and that blows away any of those that she is compared to. In other words, she's better! This whole band is better! The impressive part of this group is not the vocals or the music, but the songwriting. It's been a long time since I've heard such powerful lyrics come from any band, popular or indie! Songs like "Dear John" and "It's about you", and even "Sign" are masterfully created and beautifully constructed into fine works of songwriting excellence. I found it hard to move past the song "Sign" because I just couldn't believe the great lyrics. I think I listened to it a dozen times. This is simply magnificent stuff. So, all praise aside, I believe that this is definitely the one CD that you should buy. If you don't like what you hear, odds are that you have been living under a rock somewhere and your taste for great music was left behind." Michael Allison - THE GLOBALMUSE.COM "Naked Blue's top-notch songwriting and unique acoustic rock sound shine on their latest release, Shaving Lucky. "It's About You" is a radio-ready pop hit waiting to happen and "When the Sun Shines Here" will have you imagining small-town life at its best. My favorite cut is the slightly ambiguous love-gone-wrong tune "Sign." All around brilliant performances from Scott and Jen Smith make this CD worth putting on "Repeat" for hours at a time. Great stuff!" - Janel Grice
